Each speaker will share updates from their respective offices, along with a look at how state and county government intersects with the local business community. Bring your questions. Meet our speakers:
Senator Troy Hashimoto represents Hawaiʻi State Senate District 5, which includes Wailuku, Waikapū, Waiheʻe, Waiʻehu, and Kahului on Maui. He serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Housing and as a member of the Committees on Education, Government Operations, Public Safety and Military Affairs, and Ways and Means. Senator Hashimoto was appointed to the Hawaiʻi State House of Representatives in 2018 and to the State Senate in 2023. During his tenure, he has focused on expanding housing opportunities and securing funding for schools and community facilities throughout Maui, including the new Central Maui Middle School. He earned his bachelor’s degree and Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver.
Senator Hashimoto also currently serves on the Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows Board, supporting the development of emerging community leaders across Maui Nui. He is a 2021 graduate of the Council of State Governments West’s Western Legislative Academy and a 2024 recipient of the Council of State Governments’ 20 Under 40 Leadership Award. Senator Hashimoto remains committed to advancing practical solutions and improving the quality of life for residents of Maui and the State of Hawaiʻi.
Representative Tyson Miyake was born and raised on Maui and is a proud graduate of Maui High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management with a minor in business law from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Tyson grew up working in his family business, Miyake Concrete Accessories, a locally owned construction supply company serving Maui’s building industry. He later served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer, helping manage its day-to-day operations and working closely with local contractors, employees, and customers. His experience in the family business taught him the importance of hard work, strong relationships, and supporting the local businesses that keep Hawaiʻi’s economy moving.
Before joining the Legislature, Tyson served as Chief of Staff to Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino. He currently represents House District 10 in the Hawaiʻi State House of Representatives. He serves as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Housing, Vice Chair of the House Committee on Transportation, and a member of the House Committee on Finance. He remains committed to strengthening Hawaiʻi’s small and family-owned businesses and creating greater opportunities for local families.
