About the Program
Sooner or later, everyone wants to retire. If you own a family business, retirement isn’t that simple. Owners need to be prepared to answer various questions, which can be further complicated by the relationships and emotions involved. Less than one third of family businesses survive the transition from first to second generation. The primary cause for failure is the lack of planning. Donovan Koki, Sr. VP of Corporate Banking for Bank of Hawaii and Marcus Boland, Wealth Management Advisor for Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Co. will provide insight, tips, and answers to what options are available to finance the succession and what institutions look at before extending financing. The panel discussion will be moderated by Julia Okinaka, Senior Manager of Accuity LLP. The panelists will use two family business scenarios as examples when discussing the options. The two case studies will be emailed to members (via the listserv) prior to the meeting.
