Speaker: Michael D. Miyahira, Family Business Consultant and Owner of Business Strategies
About the Speaker
Mike Miyahira is the owner of Business Strategies, a company that provides consulting services to family owned and closely held businesses. The company focuses on succession planning, family business governance issues and strategic planning.
Miyahira is also Manager and Chief Financial Officer for the Hawaiian Rainbows Group, which is involved with real estate development, topsoil sales, and farm maintenance services. Miyahira is also an adjunct professor with the College of Business and Economics at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Prior to 2000, Miyahira spent more than 24 years with one of Hawaii’s largest commerical banks on the islands of Oahu, Maui and Hawaii. The bulk of his banking career was spent as a senior credit officer and manager of several of the bank’s business banking units.
In addition to his business interests, Miyahira has been a trustee of the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection of the Hawaii Supreme Court since 1996, and currently serves as the chair. He is also the immediate past president of the National Client Protection Organization whose membership spans the US and Canada. He is a frequent presenter at the American Bar Association Center for Professional Responsibility’s annual Client Protection Forum as well as the National Client Protection Organization’s annual Fall Workshop. He has also consulted on client protection matters with the Japan Federation of Bar Associations.
He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, the Island of Hawaii YMCA, and the National Client Protection Organization.
He is a past president of the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement of Hawaii Island, the Big Island Business Council and the Hawaii Island United Way, past treasurer for the United Way Statewide Association of Hawaii, and past vice chair and corporate treasurer for the Island of Hawaii YMCA. He has also served on the State of Hawaii’s Dept. of Public Safety, Hawaii Island Corrections Advisory Council as well as on the Advisory Council for the College of Business and Economics at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
