“Reflections on 22 years of leading a family business as an outsider”

Speaker: H. Mitchell D’Olier, Chairman of Kaneohe Ranch Co. and the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation

H. Mitchell “Mitch” D’Olier was elected chair of Kaneohe Ranch Company, Limited and the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation effective January 1, 2014. He was previously president and chief executive officer of Kaneohe Ranch and the Foundation from July 2002 to December 31, 2013, and previously president and chief executive officer of Victoria Ward, Limited from 1993 to 2002. D’Olier was president and chief operating officer of Hawaiian Airlines, Inc. and its related companies from August 1991 through May 1993. Prior to joining Hawaiian, he was a partner and management committee member of the Honolulu law firm of Goodsill, Anderson, Quinn & Stifel, which he joined as an associate in February 1972.

Kaneohe Ranch manages the real estate owned by Limited Liability Companies for the family of Harold K.L. Castle and Alice H. Castle. The real estate portfolio consists of land holdings located on the windward side of Oahu, and on the mainland United States.

The Foundation is the largest private foundation based in Hawaii. Grants are primarily awarded to non-profit organizations focusing on public education redesign and enhancement, nearshore marine resource conservation, and strengthening Windward Oahu communities. Since its inception, the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation has awarded more than $143 million in grants, with more than $50 million going to organizations serving windward Oahu. The Foundation currently averages grant awards of $7.0 million a year.
